All-New Baojun RS-3

The Baojun brand that’s owned by the SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) joint venture has been really productive over the past two years, bringing several all-new models to the market. It looks like the streak will continue, as the Chinese marque has another new vehicle in the pipeline. Called the RS-3, it’s a compact SUV that will become available locally in October. Previewed in these official images, the Baojun RS-3 is based on the latest R architecture developed by SGMW.

Sized similarly to the VW T-Roc, the RS-3 is 4,300 mm long, 1,750 mm wide and 1,625 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,550 mm. According to the company, it inherits “the brand’s new young, technological, intelligent and connected DNA.” As with the RS-5 SUV, RM-5 minivan and RC-6 crossover, the RS-3 packs advanced tech features, such as in-vehicle voice command.

The compact SUV also adopts Baojun’s new “interstellar geometry” design language. The carmaker uses words such as “masculine” and “athletic” to describe the RS-3’s styling, and the truth is it doesn’t look half bad. Highlights include pronounced front fenders and rear haunches, an aggressive front end featuring split headlights, Baojun’s new corporate grille and logo, rugged black cladding and a “floating” roof. The split taillights echo the design of the headlights and are somewhat similar to those of the new RM-5 minivan.

The RS-3 will be available with two gasoline engines: a 105 PS 1.5-liter naturally aspirated unit and a 130 PS 1.2-liter turbo, both of which will be coupled to either a standard six-speed manual or an optional CVT automatic gearbox. Prices are expected to be announced closer to the October launch.
